[FR] Statue de Florent EVRARD, secrétaire général du syndicat des mineurs située à Lens.
Florent EVRARD est né le 13 mai 1851 à Denain (Nord), fils d’Émile Joseph (ouvrier mineur) et de Marie-Joseph GRAS (ménagère). Il est mort le 21 janvier 1917 à Paris (7, rue de la Goutte d’Or). Il est le père de deux fils députés : Raoul EVRARD et Anselme EVRARD.
Il travailla à la mine dès l’âge de 9 ans et passa en tout 28 ans au fonds de la mine de 1864 à 1892.
Lorsqu’arrive la guerre de 1870, il s’engage pour la durée de la guerre au 17e bataillon de chasseurs à pied. Rapidement, il milite aux côtés d’Émile BASLY pour l’organisation d’un syndicat des mineurs. Son militantisme lui vaudra d’être renvoyé par la compagnie des mines d’Anzin en 1883. De 1883 à 1889, il fut contraint d’exercer différents métiers pour subvenir aux besoins de sa famille.
En 1889, il arrive dans le Pas-de-Calais pour travailler aux mines de Meurchin. En 1892, il prend le poste de secrétaire général du syndicat des mineurs du Pas-de-Calais, en remplacement de Lamendin qui vient d’être élu député. Parallèlement, il fut de nombreuses années secrétaire de la Fédération nationale des mineurs. A partir de 1912, il fut administrateur de la Maison syndicale de Lens.
De 1889 à 1892, il est conseiller municipal à Bauvain (Nord). En 1900, il devient conseiller municipal à Lens, puis conseiller d’arrondissement du canton de Lens-Est en 1904.
Il est décédé le 21 janvier 1917 à Paris.
Par délibération du conseil municipal de Lens en date du 5 avril 1954, le nom de Square Florent EVRARD est donné au rond-point aménagé à l’intersection de l’avenue Van-Pelt et des rues de la Motte et Étienne Dolet.

Florent EVRARD was born on May 13, 1851 in Denain (Nord), son of Emile Joseph (miner) and Marie-Joseph GRAS (housewife). He died on January 21, 1917 in Paris (7, rue de la Goutte d'Or). He is the father of two deputy sons: Raoul EVRARD and Anselme EVRARD.
He worked at the mine from the age of 9 and spent a total of 28 years at the mine's bottom from 1864 to 1892.
When the War of 1870 came, he enlisted for the duration of the war in the 17th battalion of foot fighters. Quickly, he campaigned alongside Emile BASLY for the organization of a miners' union. His activism will result in him being dismissed by the Anzin mines company in 1883. From 1883 to 1889, he was forced to exercise various trades to provide for his family.
In 1889, he arrived in Pas-de-Calais to work at the Meurchin mines. In 1892, he took on the post of secretary general of the Pas-de-Calais miners' union, replacing Lamendin, who had just been elected deputy. At the same time, he was for many years secretary of the National Federation of Minors. From 1912 he was administrator of the Maison syndicale de Lens.
From 1889 to 1892, he was a municipal councilor in Bauvain (Nord). In 1900, he became municipal councilor in Lens, then borough councilor for the canton of Lens-Est in 1904.
He died on January 21, 1917 in Paris.
By deliberation of the municipal council of Lens dated April 5, 1954, the name of Square Florent EVRARD is given to the roundabout located at the intersection of avenue Van-Pelt and rue de la Motte and rue Etienne Dolet.
