Eglise St Martin de Nieppe

Eglise bonsecour L'église du quartier du Pont doit son nom à une antique chapelle disparue lors de la Révolution française.

Mis en chantier en 1876, l'édifice pastiche néo-roman en briques du pays (la briqueterie Debosque, rue de Gand, a fourni les 80 000 briques nécessaires à sa construction) était achevé dès les premiers jours de l'année suivante. C'est le 8 janvier 1877 que la deuxième église de Nieppe reçut la bénédiction solennelle.

Après 1914-1918, son clocher ne fut pas reconstruit pour des raisons financières. Lors de sa reconstruction partielle, la façade a ensuite subi des modifications heureuses : petite mosaïque au tympoan,belle rosace et clocheton.

L'église fut reconstruite en deux temps et sera inaugurée le 6 octobre 1929 par Monseigneur Jansoone, évêque auxiliaire de Lille.

Dans le choeur se trouve du mobilier daté de la fin du XIXe siècle ou début XXe siècle. L'autel Notre-Dame et son retable représentant « La dormition de la Vierge » date de 1900. Ce n'est qu'en 1985 que ta ville de Nieppe est devenue propriétaire de l'édifice.

Notre-Dame de Bon-Secours Church

The church of the Pont district gets its name from an ancient chapel which disappeared during the French Revolution.

Launched in 1876 the pastiche Neo-Romanesque building in local brick (the Debosque brickworks in the rue de Gand supplied the 80 000 bricks necessary for its construction) was finished over the first days of the following year and the second church in Nieppe received its solemn benediction on 8 January 1877.

After 1914-18 the bell tower was not rebuilt for financial reasons.

During its partial reconstruction the facade underwent successful changes : a small mosaic to the tympanum, a beautiful rose window and a bell turret.

The church was rebuilt in two phases and inaugurated on 6 October 1929 by Monseigneur Jansoone, auxiliary bishop of Lille.

In the chancel can be found furniture dating from the end of the 19th century, including the altar of Notre-Dame with ils reredos representing the dormition of the Virgin Mary, dated 1900.

The town of Nieppe only officially acquired the building in 1985.
