The impaled coat of arms of Bishop Mitchell T. Rozanski’s reflects his connections to his Baltimore home, as well as his current position as the bishop of the Diocese of Springfield, MA.

The left side of the coat of arms is that of the Diocese of Springfield. A red cross, with the arms terminating in a single ball is the Cross of Saint Michael, the patron of the diocese. In the corners are four circles represent fountains. The gospels are the fountains of the Christian faith.

The upper part of the left side contains the cross of Saint Michael since the name Mitchell is derived from Michael and a rose represents Bishop Rozanski’s last name which means “of the rose” in Polish. The lower part has the black and gold colors of Maryland. The open book represents the word of God that the bishop is called to preach. In a banner below is Bishop Rozanski’s motto: “Serve the Lord with Gladness,” taken from Psalm 100.

Mitchell T. Rosanski was born in Baltimore, MD on August 6, 1958. He attended the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC and their Theological College where he received his seminary training. He was ordained a priest on November 24, 1984.

In Baltimore he rose to the rank of Auxiliary Bishop of Baltimore before he was installed as the Bishop of Springfield, MA on June 19, 2014.
