He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Section 3, Grave 1538.
Description:
From Find A Grave-Ivory Kimball was the son of Wilbraham Kimball, Jr. and Ann Hatch. He married Anna Lovinia Ferris in 1861. During the Civil War he served as a member of company E, 55th Indiana Infantry. After the war, in 1893 he was appointed judge of the Washington, D.C. police court by President Grover Cleveland. His crowning achivement, however, was dreaming up the creation of the Memorial Amphithearter in Arlington National Cemetery. He wished to have a place that veterans could meet and honor American defenders. As the Department Commander of the Grand Army of the Republic in D.C., Judge Kimball worked hard to get the bill through Congree to build the Arlington Amphitheatre. During President Theodore Roosevelt's administration the bill went through and Judge Kimball was honored by being chosen to remove the first spadeful of dirt to start construction of the Amphitheatre. His name appears on a bronze tablet on the structure.
