This long-abandoned site was constructed by AVRO Canada under the auspices of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) in about 1950. It consisted of a main reinforced concrete "tether" post to which cabling was attached. The other end was attached to a jet engine, initially the Orenda, and subsequently the Iroquois engine. These were used in the AVRO CF100 Canuck and the initial build of AVRO CF105 Arrows. The Iroquois was intended for the CF105 when the order came down to scrap the entire project in 1959.

The site was abandoned, but not before outlining support structures were removed. The foundations of some of these can still be seen.

Although now overgrown, the tether pole and the paved track still remain. Easiest access is from the northern approach from Hwy 33, although the more adventurous can bushwhack in.

A great article about the track can be found here:

Era: Post WW II

General Comments:
Rare glimpse into aircraft development in the 1950's. The site is about 2 miles north of where the Avro Arrow models were test fired into Lake Ontario during flight dynamics testing.
