The cemetery in the town of Kirriemuir was established in 1857 on the southern side of the Hill of Kirriemuir to the north-east of the town centre. It was extended to the north in 1870, and to the south in 1979.
The cemetery is notable for housing the grave of local playwright J.M. Barrie, and also the town's war memorial at the top of the hill at the northern end.
There are entrances at the foot of the hill to the south where the newest part lies, and also to the north on top of the hill where there is a car park. The cemetery is dotted with many fine trees and each of the three sections are on terraces, divided by steps.
