The year Lawrence was born , 1913, was the year The Ford Motor Company's Highland Park Plant in Highland Park, Michigan, near Detroit, became the first automobile production facility in the world to implement the moving assembly line, significantly speeding up production of the Model T. It was also the year U.S. President Woodrow Wilson triggered the explosion of the Gamboa Dike, ending construction on the Panama Canal. In this year Richard Nixon, 37th President of the United States was born.
