A January night, with the moonlight shining, my father and some friends heard the noise of a plane crashing into the fjord not far from their house in Skånevik.
The boys rushed to the sea and jumped into a small boat and rowed towards the sinking fighter plane.
They managed to rescue the navigator, but sadly the pilot followed the wreck into the deep sea.
The boys then rowed back to shore and carried the navigator to my fathers house were they managed to get him warm and safe. Not long after the German soldiers came and took him away, but he survived the war.
Many years later the locals in Skånevik raised this memorial and by coincidence the locals in New Zealand, where the navigator had his family, got to hear about this and came to pay attention to waht the locals had done.
Please have a look at the attached pictures and translate as required.

To log this waymark you will have to visit the memorial and send me a picture with you in front of the stone.
