"Join the many members who enjoy tea or coffee while socializing in a friendly relaxed atmosphere, or come into our lounge where you will find hundreds of books to read, Television to watch, or send an email from one of our computers to your family or friends back home. Have a 'tour' of the facilities and we are sure you will find some activities you would like to be involved in.
The Oliver Senior Centre Society
The aims of the Oliver Senior Centre Society are to promote development and improvement of the mental, social, and physical well being of Senior Citizens by providing a venue for recreation and entertainment through dancing, participating in various floor games, card games, playing pool, etc.' Our Saturday morning dances with our famous volunteer band are well renowned and are second to none. The building of this Centre was started in June, 1988 and was ready for use in December, 1988. What a remarkable achievement, especially when all this was accomplished mainly with volunteers using money raised by themselves. Their generosity of time, effort and fund raising is indeed a tribute to this building which hosts thousands of people participating in the various events every year. We are very proud we have been able to continue this concept to this day.
Reaching Out In Friendship
This is an invitation to you to come and visit our Centre as we believe we have a lot to offer. It is not uncommon to have in excess of 2000 people use this building on a monthly basis. A few evening dinner/dances open to the public for a very nominal cost as well as a Christmas Dinner is organized by the Society with all the cooking, and serving of the food done by member volunteers. In addition to this, we recognize our responsibilities to the community by hosting such things as Flu Clinics, Mammography Screening, Training sessions for personnel to assist in filing Income Tax and providing Scholarships to the Okanagan Senior Secondary School as well as providing charitable donations. Even with a membership count in excess of 300, the Oliver Senior Centre Society is self managed with thanks to the generosity of the many devoted volunteers and to a small Board which oversees the stewardship of this Society. We welcome all new members and we rejoice when they are interested enough to become one of our volunteer group."
