B.M. Steele - Denison, TX - Graves Mentioning a Cause of Death on Waymarking.com

His Findagrave page (see Website, below) has a contemporary article from the Denison Herald, noting that a "difficulty occurred" over family matters. Mr. Green(e), who was Steele's stepfather, and his stepson apparently decided to settle the issue by shooting at each other. Steele was shot through the right lung, while Green was shot through a kidney and the breast bone. The article noted, "The wounds are very serious and both parties will probably die". Findagrave has no listing for any variant of "John Green" who died in 1882, so maybe he survived. Steele's attending physician, Dr. Alex W. Acheson, was a Civil War veteran who is buried at Fairview Cemetery, which replaced this one.

Lichen is common throughout Oakwood Cemetery, and this area has been hit hard by Mother Nature during storms. The monument physically is in good condition, but it is well-weathered and difficult to read on all sides. Best of luck with the epitaphs, and please, no chalk: That potentially damages the headstone, which doesn't belong to you, and doesn't help. The front reads:
