Erected by the Bicentennial Commission of the Archdiocesan, this marker gives a chronology of the history of the Jesuits in New Orleans and of the construction of the two Immaculate Conception churches of New Orleans. It begins in 1700 when Father Paul Du Ru became the first Jesuit to explore the Mississippi from its mouth northward, completing Marquette's exploration of the upper river. The timeline ends in 1928-1929 with the construction of the second Immaculate Conception church.
