During the Second World War, the German Wehrmacht built an extensive system of bunkers along the west coast of Jutland as a part of the Atlantic Wall, which stretched from the French Channel coast to Nordkapp in Norway.
In the summer of 1944, therefore, the building of Battery Tirpitz was begun. The battery was supposed to cover the entrance to the habour of Esbjerg.
However, the battery was never completed before the liberation on May 5th, 1945.

The old Tirpitz Bunker looks like a colossus in the sand and contains the story of Hitler’s gigantic bunker project: the Atlantic Wall. Visitors enter the bunker through an underground exhibition tunnel from Tirpitz.. There are war supplies and interactive areas, for example, moving in a mining area.
The Tirpitz Museum contains world-class architecture, experiences and tales. Named by visitors as Denmark's best theme museum in 2017.
