Origin of the name
This route honors the French diplomat and entrepreneur Ferdinand de Lesseps (1805-1894) best known for having built the Suez Canal.
Location and access
The Ferdinand-de-Lesseps quay is located on the right bank of the Seine, between the Émile-Duchemin quay, the boundary of which is marked by the Gustave-Flaubert bridge and the Boisguilbert quay.
The railway line which runs alongside the quay separates it from Boulevard Ferdinand-de-Lesseps. The hangars separate the quay from the Normandie-Niemen promenade (which stretches from the Gustave-Flaubert bridge to the Guillaume-le-Conquérant bridge).
History
The facades and roofs were listed as historic monuments in 1997.
Building built by Lucien Lefort in 1901 during the westward extension of the port facilities. The building consists of an industrial brick tower with an upper elevation treated in false machicolations surmounted by a pyramid roof. A small adventitious building of the same structure contained part of the machinery. Nothing remains of the old interior installations.
