The 12m high memorial is located on a traffic round-about consisting of alternating bands of grass and concrete running parallel to Bourbong Street.The memorial comprises a tall, red granite column above a massive granite and trachyte pedestal and crowned by a marble Ionic capital and life sized statue of an Australian soldier. The statue stands head bowed, arms reversed and carrying a back pack.
