Unfortunately, as of this posting, the Tiny Texas Jails website is offline. However, the work upon which it's based is William E. Moore's "The Texas Calaboose and Other Forgotten Jails", which has nice color photographs and brief histories of many of Texas's surviving calabooses. This is one of the few remnants of downtown Ringgold, and Moore notes that this calaboose was constructed with stone and concrete (the roof). It occupies eighty-three square feet, with walls a foot thick and a dirt floor. Once located in front of it was the McCall Company hardware store, who held the key to the calaboose. When that store burned in 1939, the key was seemingly lost. Moore says that the door is missing, but there is a metal door on a post sitting on the floor, with a board that may have been a bench. There are two windows with bars on the south and east sides of the calaboose, and a hole in the wall at the southeast corner may have been used for ventilation.
