Not long ago, this hydrant was all silver. In 2019, Create Ardmore and the Ardmore Fire Department worked together on a beautification effort in which fire hydrants in the downtown Cultural Arts District -- a comparatively small number compared to the over 1600 hydrants that the Ardmore FD has to maintain throughout the area! -- would be given the glamour treatment. As the Ardmore FD requires that the hydrants have a specific color cap -- red, orange, green or blue -- to indicate how much water pressure each tank has behind it, they did the priming work, leaving local volunteers to use their imaginations and minimal guidelines in the effort.

Today, there is an orange cap, and while the hydrant has a white background, it is covered by paint drippings that are green, red, yellow, and blue. Even the white chain has a few drops. Note the paint brush near the base, looking like it was left in a can of blue paint and then allowed to make a mess. The two side outlet caps are painted red and blue, while the front outlet cap is white with a blue perimeter and outlet cap bolt, with a green grasshopper. There is no indication as to why the grasshopper is here. Could be a nod to the artist, could be a nod to someone involved with the store.
