Not long ago, this hydrant was all silver. In 2019, Create Ardmore and the Ardmore Fire Department worked together on a beautification effort in which fire hydrants in the downtown Cultural Arts District -- a comparatively small number compared to the over 1600 hydrants that the Ardmore FD has to maintain throughout the area! -- would be given the glamour treatment. As the Ardmore FD requires that the hydrants have a specific color cap -- red, orange, green or blue -- to indicate how much water pressure each tank has behind it, they did the priming work, leaving local volunteers to use their imaginations and minimal guidelines in the effort.

Today, there is an orange cap, and the rest of the hydrant is the familiar brown color of a bag of M&M's, with the iconic bag label in white on the visible section of the standpipe. M&Ms of different colors are used as detail throughout, some of them looking like what melted in your mouth but not in your hand, while some of them are the newer, anthropomorphic M&Ms.

The hydrant is behind the historic Noble Brothers building at 128-130 W Main St. It was constructed around 1900, and careful eyes will spot a concrete stairway right behind the hydrant bearing a stamp of "I.T.", from the days before Oklahoma's statehood (1907).
