Il est un des quatre phares de Saint-Malo, situé près du quartier Saint-Servan.
En alignement avec le phare des Bas-Sablons, il permet, en venant du large, l'entrée au port de Saint-Malo par le chenal intérieur de la Petite Porte.
En 1868, le phare est allumé sur une tour carrée de pierre de taille encastrée dans un corps de logis contenant les magasins et la chambre du gardien. La construction fut approuvée dès 1866 et réalisée en même temps que le phare des Bas-Sablons. En 1896, il est peint en noir sur la partie supérieure. En 1926, il est électrifié. En août 1944, il est détruit par l'armée allemande.
En janvier 1948, le phare, reconstruit à l'identique, est de nouveau allumé avec un feu directionnel vert. En 1975, il est automatisé et télé-contrôlé. L'aide-radio fut supprimée en 2000.

It is one of the four lighthouses of Saint-Malo, located near the Saint-Servan district.
In alignment with the Bas-Sablons lighthouse, it allows entry from the open sea to the port of Saint-Malo by the inner channel of the Petite Porte.
In 1868, the lighthouse was lit on a square freestone tower embedded in a main building containing the shops and the caretaker's room. The construction was approved in 1866 and carried out at the same time as the Bas-Sablons lighthouse. In 1896, it was painted black on the upper part. In 1926, he was electrified. In August 1944, it was destroyed by the German army.
In January 1948, the lighthouse, rebuilt identically, was again lit with a green directional light. In 1975, it was automated and remote controlled. The radio assistant was discontinued in 2000.
