The Ministry of National Defense cites to the army order the City of Saumur
"was worthy throughout the war of the heroic attitude of the school of Cavalry which illustrates this city. By participating with great self-sacrifice in the heroic resistance of the aspirants of this school in 1940, deserves to be associated with their destiny.
hit by numerous bombings in 1940 and 1944, which killed a hundred people and totally destroyed 400 buildings and having paid in the person of a hundred political deportees a heavy price for the resistance.
Its name constitutes one of the symbols of French patriotism.

atteinte par de nombreux bombardements en 1940 et 1944, qui tuèrent une centaine de personnes et détruisent totalement 400 immeubles et ayant payé en la personne d'une centaine de déportés politiques un lourd tribut à la résistance.
Son nom constitué un des symboles du patriotisme Français.
