In the center of the mural is a portrait of Mary Smith Bailey. There is a ribbon behind her head. On the left side of her head is her name. On the right side is "Education as a Way of Life". There are red poppies across the bottom of the mural. On the ends of the mural are buildings that local residents might recognize but I don't.

Mary Bailey (1890-1973): For 39 years she taught at numerous segregated schools for African-American children including Round Rock, Jonah, Florence, Corn Hill and Georgetown. She started the first preschool open to non-white students in 1953. Today, the Head Start Center is Georgetown is named in Mary's honor.
