The Brisbane General Post Office complex was established in 1872 and incorporated the Telegraph Office on the right-hand side of the central section and the GPO on the other.
The Brisbane General Post Office and former Telegraph Office, is a large Nineteenth Century public building in the Italianate style constructed of locally made bricks, porphyry and sandstone.There is an arched sandstone colonnade at street level below a verandah supported on Corinthian columns.
