Coat of arms of Augustus Gough-Calthorpe, 6th Baron of Calthorpe which were one of three heraldic escutcheons that stood above the entrance to the former University Main Library. Today the three heraldic escutcheons are part of a display to the south of the University's new Green Heart.
An information board close to the new display gives the following information about Augustus Gough-Calthorpe and his family.
'The Calthorpe Family
The Calthorpes were one of the founding benefactors to the University, generously donating the land on which the first buildings of the Edgbaston campus were constructed between 1900 and 1908. They also gifted further land in later years including the area now occupied by the Green Heart. Their coat of arms is depicted here within the heraldry of the Anstruther-Gough-Calthorpe baronet.'
Blazon:
Quarterly, 1st and 4th: chequy or and azure a fess ermine, for distinction a canton ermine (Calthorpe); 2nd: gules on a fess argent between three boar's heads couped or a lion passant azure, for distinction a canton ermine (Gough); 4th: argent three piles sable (Anstruther)an inescutcheon Argent.
Although not shown on this representation an inescutcheon Argent, charged with a sinister hand erect aupaumee and couped at the wrist Gules may be added.

The central shield contains what is known as the 'red hand of Ulster' (Irish: Lámh Dhearg Uladh). This is usually shown as a right hand, but baronets such as the 6th Baron of Calthorpe are permitted to use the left (sinister) hand.
