The inscription reads -
To the Glory of God and in loving memory of
Robert Plummer Weddall,
(New Zealand Field Artillery)
only surviving son of Robert Weddall of North Hall.
Killed in action, France 10th April 1918.
Aged 36 Years"Born Gilberdyke 1882. Only son of Robert Reddall (1839-1893) & Esther Simpson (1847-1928), of Bridlington and 269 Anlaby Road, Hull. Educated at Hull grammar school. His father who was a farmer and died in 1893, leaving a fortune. He had three sisters, Harriet, Mary Ann and Emily and they all lived by private means. He emigrated to Australia, on 27/09/1912 and moved to New Zealand. He enlisted in the New Zealand Field Artillery 2nd brigade, 2 battery. Died of wounds 10/04/1918, aged 36.
His name is recorded on the Hull grammar school memorial. He was unmarried and had no children. He left £22,608 in his will to his widowed mother. Buried at Westhof Farm Cemetery, West Vlaanderen, Belgium . His grave inscription reads, “
Their glory shall not be blotted out”
