This double arch stone bridge carried the Delph branch railway line of the Manchester to Huddersfield Railway Line.

The branch line originally connected Delph and Oldham and closed in 1963. A 2 mile stretch from Delph to Uppermill has been converted to a rails to trails cycle and walking route known as the Donkey Trail.
The bridge
his bridge carried trains over a small stream and public footpath. The stream is a tributary of the nearby River Tame and the footpath leads from the nearby road up the hillside next to the stream.
This part of the branch line between Uppermill and Greenfield opened in 1851 and mainly carried freight.
