While persuing a geocache today I saw a tall pole with a strange assembly at the top...

A fellow waymarker told me she thought it was an antenna, but some web searching tells us that it is actually a Federal Systems Modulator Series Omnidiretional Electronic Siren. No horn-on-a-wire, this high-tech marvel can produce a wide variety of warning signals as well as recorded voice messages with clarity and wide reach.

Although it is in a park at the end of Curtis Street (near the Great Mall,) it is likely that the siren exists because of the possibility of toxic spills at the Union Pacific switching yard which is across the street.
