Le choix stylistique n'est pas un hasard car il caractérise l'architecture de la Contre-Réforme qui triomphe alors à Dinan.
Confisquée à la Révolution, la chapelle devient, à partir de 1817, la chapelle de l'Hôpital Général de Dinan.
La statuaire, présente en façade, témoigne de cet état de fait puisqu'elle représente deux saints hospitaliers: Saint-Vincent de Paul et Saint-Thomas de Villeneuve, fondateur de l'ordre féminin qui avait précisément la responsabilité de l'hôpital dinannais. "
