Not long ago, this was a standard red hydrant, and a look at Google Maps Street View provides hints that it's actually fairly new. In 2019, Create Ardmore and the Ardmore Fire Department worked together on a beautification effort in which fire hydrants in the downtown Cultural Arts District -- a comparatively small number compared to the over 1600 hydrants that the Ardmore FD has to maintain throughout the area! -- would be given the glamour treatment. As the Ardmore FD requires that the hydrants have a specific color cap -- red, orange, green or blue -- to indicate how much water pressure each tank has behind it, they did the priming work, leaving local volunteers to use their imaginations and minimal guidelines in the effort.

There is now a green cap with a yellow operating nut, and the rest of the hydrant is light blue, with "Peace" in white on the front outlet cap. The operating nuts on the outlet caps are a darker shade of blue, and the chains are yellow. The bolt heads on the breaker ring are yellow, and note how the nuts and parts of the bolts on the cap are also yellow. A purple peace sign is down low on the front, while there are multicolored peace signs on the side and back. "Imagine Peace" is in multiple colors, a nod to John Lennon, and there are peace stickers and even a peace dove sticker. They won't last, get your photos while you can.
