Valley Home School consists of two buildings, the K-3rd class campus and the 4th-8th class campus. In 2000, the K-3 building was named Harold Pope School in honor of its former Principal.

The Person

For 47 years, Harold W. Pope (Oct 24, 1932 - Oct 31, 2016) was teacher and later principal of Valley Home School, a small school in a small settlement in rural Central California.

Pope started teaching in Valley Home in 1954 and became the school's principle just one year later. He retired in 2000, but continued to coach and mentor at the school.

The Place

The Valley Home School dates back to 1903, however, the current building was dedicated in 1975. It originally housed all eight grades. After the completion of a second building, the first one was dedicated for K - 3rd grade students.

In 2000, that building was named Harold Pope School.
