The Bell UH-1 Iroquois gained fame for its extensive use in the Vietnam War. The original designation, HU-1, led to the nickname "Huey." While Huey's principal use was to carry troops into battle and to serve as a gunship, it was also used to evacuate wounded. This example is on static display near the Permian Basin Vietnam Veterans Memorial. The helicopter is on the southwest edge of a garden, in the center of which is a statue depicting three soldiers, one injured, awaiting "dust-off" to a medical unit.
