Not long ago, this was a standard red hydrant, and it had probably been this way since the 1990s. In 2019, Create Ardmore and the Ardmore Fire Department worked together on a beautification effort in which fire hydrants in the downtown Cultural Arts District -- a comparatively small number compared to the over 1600 hydrants that the Ardmore FD has to maintain throughout the area! -- would be given the glamour treatment. As the Ardmore FD requires that the hydrants have a specific color cap -- red, orange, green or blue -- to indicate how much water pressure each tank has behind it, they did the priming work, leaving local volunteers to use their imaginations and minimal guidelines in the effort.

Today, there is an orange cap, with "Ardmore", "A F D", and "Est. 1887" superimposed on a black badge. The majority of the hydrant is white with black spots throughout. The "ears" on the side outlet caps are black, and there's a black spot over one of the Dalmatian's eyes. Black provides the outline of the dog's mouth, and his red tongue is sticking out on the front outlet cap. There is a red collar with a gold tag, and interestingly, there is a signature on the breaker ring in back, "Hope Bass 2019". She does great work.
