Wearing a yellow silk skirt tied at the waist with bare midriff and a top garment with epaulettes bearing embroidering patterns, this Hindu Goddess has arm and wrist bracelets, pointed sheafs over her fingers and a yellow and black crown. A champagne coupe and a cigarette holder can be seen in one of the lady's hands. Some Goddesses have multiple arms such as this one as it is believed to show the greater power of deities over humans. The background in front of which this deity is standing is ornamented with reliefs of geometrical patterns representing plates and rosettes.
Drew Mandigo created the first seventeen Downtown Rideau Mural Boxes installed in late 2016, from his Auntie Mame Series. Stunning in their originality, Drew’s works feature digital collages of ladies dressed in 1950’s and 60’s fashions, and are inspired by the spirit of the 1958 film of the same name. Several new pieces were released as part of the 2017 mural box expansion project, including one featuring a lady trapped in a glass dome, surrounded by butterflies, and a unique piece dubbed ‘the upside-down lady’.
