Mrs. Bourland was married to W.H. "Chickasaw Bill", a former Chickasaw Tribal Judge who established this cemetery in 1870 for his family and Native Americans. A Choctaw, she had a fairly impressive pedigree of her own, as her father, David Folsom Harkins, was a survivor of the Trail of Tears, a Civil War veteran, and a prominent member of the Choctaw Nation. Her grandfather, George W. Harkins, was Chief of the Choctaw Nation from 1850 to 1857, and her great-grandfather, David Folsom, was Chief of the Choctaw Nation when they were still in Mississippi, doing battle against Andrew Jackson.

Mrs. Bourland's marble headstone has been weathered by time and the elements, but the inscription on the sloped top is still legible:

The family name, "Bourland", is on the plinth, while the dove of peace flies through the Gates of Heaven, with a star in each of the upper corners. The epitaph reads:

She was a kind and affectionate wife,
a fond mother, and a friend to all.
