This little library is facing West Ashby Place at the corner of West Ashby Place and Belknap Place. The official address of the Temple Beth-El is 211 Belknap Place, but the little library is on the Ashby Place side of the synagogue. This Little Free Library is a large but strangely shaped structure. It is very wide but not very high. The roof seems to have been reconstructed because the original box has 2x4 sections added on top of what appears to be the original box, with the dark plastic roof attached by the 1x4s. so only one long row of books is possible. The sides are of plywood placed at obtuse angles making the front wider than the back. The two front doors of the library box are long pieces of clear plexiglass. All this is braced upon a single 4x4 post. The net result is that regular sized books can be lined up in a single row in the original box shape, but because the roof was modified, spaces are available for books to be laid down in the gaps between the wood supports. It makes more sense when you see the picture of the inside of the library box.

The concept of the Little Free Library is for people within a community to stop by the unit and examine the selection of books at that time. If you see a book you'd like to read, feel free to take it out and take it with you. If you have books at home that you have already read, you are encouraged to take these books to a Little Free Library and donate them into any little library's book selection. This concept is summarized as: Take A Book: Return a Book. Feel free to take a book you want to read, and feel free to return a book/add a book to this exchange unit or any others you know of. Your contribution of books keeps the sections varied and keeps the little libraries filled with book for others. Its is a win-win situation.
