This park area is located on the northwest corner of Main Street (US Highway 183) and N.W. 3rd. The bronze plaque is mounted on a 5 ft. high wall constructed of cut limestone blocks.
The town of Rocky was established in 1898 with the opening of the post office. The town got its name from a general store operated by the two men named on this memorial. They built the store of roughly laid rock. The local Indians referred to the store's owner as The Rock Man.
The bronze plaque was erected by local citizens of Rocky to honor these founders. It reads:
In honor of our early pioneers
and in memory of the first old rock store,
from which Rocky got its name
