George Kosel, a native of New York, filed a claim for a 160 acre homestead in 1902. He planted a grove, Kosel's Jungle Grove, which produced strawberries. oranges, mangos, grapefruit, and a large variety of avocados. George married Maria Gazzam who also had a homestead claim in Redland. The couple had two children George Kosel, Jr. and Bodil Kosel Lowe. Bodil still lives on the homestead of her grandmother, Bodil Olsen Kosel. Built of Dade County pine by George in 1905, this house has been added onto over the years but the original structure still remains. Bodil still maintains the avocado grove.
