Olive Patricia Dickason
1920-2011

Olive Patricia Dickason was a pioneer, visionary, academic, journalist, accomplished historian, member of the Order of Canada and winner of the Aboriginal lifetime achievement award. Steadfast in the face of opposition, Olive Dickason helped to change Canada's mandatory retirement laws. Her astonishing range of experiences and accomplishments included growing up in the bush in Northern Manitoba, a 24 year career in journalism, several years as a professor at the University of Alberta and her labour of love: Canada's First Nations, a history of Founding peoples from earliest times. This award winning textbook created a fundamental change in the way we as Canadians view our aboriginal history and , by extension, ourselves.

A History of founding peoples from earliest times.
