Yarndley’s Bush is one of Waipa district’s most precious environmental assets. At more than 14 hectares,Yarndley’s Bush is believed to be one of the largest remaining Kahiketea stands in the central North Island.

Yarndley's Bush is a good example of Kahikatea dominant swamp forest, a type that was estimated to have been wide spread in the Waikato Basin. With only 120ha of this type of vegetation remaining in the Waipa Region, the significance of this 14ha bush in a preserved state is high.

This magical green wonderland consisting of 14 hectares of pristine Kahikatea bush, is located three kilometres north of Te Awamutu. The Kahikatea is New Zealand's tallest native tree, and once covered much of the Waikato region. The Kahikatea can live to be more than 500 years old, although none of these trees have yet reached that age.

An easy 30 minute bushwalk is provided along wooden boardwalks with interesting information panels along the way. You can wear any comfortable footwear. A large viewing platform is provided in the middle of the walk.
The wooden boardwalk has been constructed to allow access to this magnificent group of trees without damaging the undergrowth of ferny carpets among fallen punga logs and wet areas in this fragile environment.
Please keep to the boardwalk to help protect this forest for future generations.

Access: Yarndley's Bush is located three kilometres north of Te Awamutu. Turn left at Ngaroto Road. Drive approximately 1 1/2 km, and look for the signpost indicating the entrance to the bushwalk. Limited carparking is available off the road.
Roadside co-ords: S 37° 58.840 E 175° 18.680

Through the very fragile environment of native trees, wet areas, ferns and native plants in this pristine remnant of Kahikatea swamp forest.
