This dovecote is on 60 acres of privately owned urban forest inside the City of Wadena, Green Island Preserve & Retreat.

The dovecote is one of the first things people come across while walking the trail that starts near the parking area. It is between a story and a story and a half tall. The pigeonholes are under the eaves. There are eight on the lower roof line and two more at the top of all four sides, forty entrances in all. As you can see in the photos, there are frosted windows waist high on three sides and a full sized door, locked, set in the south side.

The preserve is open to the public during daylight hours for quiet outdoor activities. People come to Green Island for picnics, bird watching, winter kicksledding and to walk in the woods. The preserve has outdoor sculpture, a new forest, gardens, fruiting trees and shrubs, and a meditation hut. It is posted that visitors are welcome to fruit that is on the ground, but apples should not be picked from the trees. The local deer do not have to follow the same rules.
(If known) Approximately how many pigeonholes in the dovecote?: 40
