Usually it's the lower ranks whose headstones note a death in the Great War, but here, we have a lieutenant. There aren't many details as to his fate, although a link for him on the Texas WWI Honor Roll website notes the location of his death as "Boise de Rappe", which is actually "Bois des Rappes". So, he would have fallen like so many, during the Meuse–Argonne Campaign.

There are three emblems across the top of this beautiful white marble headstone. The emblem with the double-headed eagle indicates that Lieutenant Ridley was a 32nd degree Freemason, while the emblem with the elk and the star in its antlers indicates that he was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. The emblem with the crescent and scimitar indicates that he was a Shriner. The family name, "Ridley", is on the reverse of the headstone, and below some detail and the three emblems is this inscription:

Lieut. Thos. R. Ridley
