When used as a pub name the 'White Lion' is normally a heraldic device. Currently that is not true in this case.

The current pub sign shows a drawing of a lion's head, face on with a magnificent mane.

Interestingly in a picture of the pub on its web site it shows a different sign, and that is in the form of the more traditional heraldic lion. link

Behind the pub is the Old Sawley Brewing Company, that brews beer for the pub and others in the area.
