This summer the visitor, the walker, whether mountain or not, may discover with astonishment the various installations and works of the photographers Didier Sorbé (1954-2017) and Enrique Carbó (1950 -) From the park to the princely apartments of the Château de Pau, passing by the quiet Maison au Roy where the Wood Guards live, now called Maison Baylaucq. The Pyrenees storm the castle: this title does not lack audacity, and the company mobilizes a good technical arsenal, a well thought out strategy, without neglecting an impressive intellectual preparation. It is also the expression of a dream long meditated by two artists, one Bearn, the other Aragonese, whose complicity is expressed in terms particularly delicate and convincing. That this corpus of excellence is the fruit of a fruitful partnership with the Huesca Art and Nature Center is a sign of the cross-border vocation of an artistic project of this ambition.

But what is it? Nurtured with numerous researches on the genesis of the concept of landscape, from the Renaissance until the advent of photography, the device of capture and appropriation aims first, in the heart of the palace, to explain the springs of the appearance of the landscape through the photographic representation by means of a camera obscura. A second artifice allows to become aware of what a point of view, from a framing device set up on the steep coast stretching the park facing the mountains. Third and final stage, the exhibition installed on the ground floor of the house Baylaucq offers forty works as intensely as subtly met. The route of the two authors opens to the plastic intimacy of the mountains, meeting the elements: rocky, vegetal, root, nebulous, contrasts of silence and noise ... without ever losing sight of the reference to the old palace of Kings of Navarre.

The mysterious adventure took a tragic turn in the first days of autumn 2017 with the disappearance of Didier Sorbé, in full photographic work, at the foot of the Pic d'Ossau. It has not been interrupted, however, thanks to the creative power of Enrique Carbó, who pursues with inspiration and scruple this amazing dialogue from which nothing escapes him. Work of the same breath, the Pyrenees to the assault of the castle solicits the singularity of two plastic languages ??and the wealth of their exchanges. A project of maturity that will have a landmark in the history of the landscape and
Pyrenean photography.

Cet été le visiteur, le promeneur, qu’il soit montagnard ou qu’il ne le soit pas, découvrira peut-être avec étonnement les diverses installations et les oeuvres des photographes Didier Sorbé (1954-2017) et Enrique Carbó (1950 – ), du parc aux appartements princiers du château de Pau, en passant par la tranquille Maison au Roy où logent les gardes Bois, aujourd’hui appelée Maison Baylaucq. Les Pyrénées à l’assaut du château : ce titre ne manque pas d’audace, et l’entreprise mobilise un bel arsenal technique, une stratégie mûrement réfléchie, sans négliger une impressionnante préparation intellectuelle.C’est aussi l’expression d’un rêve longtemps médité par deux artistes, l’un béarnais, l’autre aragonais, dont la complicité s’exprime en termes particulièrement délicats et convaincants. Que ce corpus d’excellence fasse l’objet d’un fructueux partenariat avec le Centre Art et Nature de Huesca signe bien la vocation transfrontalière d’un projet artistique de cette ambition.

Mais de quoi s’agit-il ? Nourri de nombreuses recherches sur la genèse du concept de paysage, de la Renaissance jusqu’à l’avènement de la photographie, le dispositif de capture et d’appropriation vise d’abord, en plein coeur du palais, à expliquer les ressorts de l’apparition du paysage à travers la représentation photographique au moyen d’une camera obscura. Un second artifice permet de prendre conscience de ce qu’est un point de vue, à partir d’un dispositif de cadrage mis en place sur la côte escarpée étirant le parc arboré face aux montagnes. Troisième et ultime étape, l’exposition installée au rez-de-chaussée de la maison Baylaucq offre une quarantaine d’oeuvres aussi intensément que subtilement réunies. L’itinéraire des deux auteurs s’ouvre à l’intimité plastique des montagnes, à la rencontre des éléments : rocheux, végétal, racinaire, nébuleux, aux contrastes de silence et de fracas… sans jamais perdre de vue la référence au vieux palais des rois de Navarre.

La mystérieuse aventure prit un tour tragique dans les premiers jours de l’automne 2017 avec la disparition de Didier Sorbé, en plein travail photographique, au pied du Pic d’Ossau. Elle ne s’est pas interrompue, pourtant, grâce à la puissance créative d’Enrique Carbó, qui poursuit avec inspiration et scrupule cet étonnant dialogue dont rien ne lui échappe. OEuvre d’un même souffle, Les Pyrénées à l’assaut du château sollicite la singularité de deux langages plastiques et la richesse de leurs échanges. Un projet de maturité qui devra faire date dans l’histoire du paysage et
de la photographie pyrénéenne.
