The plaque says, "This is a re-creation of the original "Concept Model" for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Disneyland, created by the talented ratites of Wall Disney Imagineering. Imangineers use a scale model such as this as a tool as they define and refine designs for projects.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, "the wildest ride in the wilderness" debuted at Disneyland on September 2, 1979. The attraction's name pays tribute to its predecessor, the Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland, which occupied the same location in Frontierland from 1956 until 1977. In that attraction, the Mine Train passed by an enormous waterfall called Big Thunder."
