"Built from 1809 to 1823 according to the drawings of Chief Engineer Lebrun, the Municipal Theater called" the small theater "is listed in the Supplementary Inventory of Historical Monuments in 1999.
From neo-renaissance to Italian style, considered by some as a model of the Scala of Milan, the theater with its horseshoe-shaped hall received on its boards illustrious artists.
Essentially made of wood and of perfect proportions, the auditorium is endowed with exceptional acoustics which allowed it to give the "the" for the representation of great operas.
Made of quarried stone quarried near the Nièvre, the facade of the theater, has walls of rubble and beautiful red lanterns and stands on two levels. Flanked by remarkable colonnade capitals, the peristyle protects the main entrance from climatic hazards. It is thanks to five full bays that the terrace on the first floor communicates with the fireplace. "

" Édifié de 1809 à 1823 d’après les dessins de l’ingénieur en chef Lebrun, le Théâtre municipal dit « le petit théâtre » est inscrit à l’Inventaire Supplémentaire des Monuments Historiques en 1999.
De style néo-renaissance à l’italienne, considéré par certains comme un modèle réduit de la Scala de Milan, le théâtre avec sa salle en forme de fer à cheval a reçu sur ses planches d’illustres artistes.
Essentiellement en bois et de proportions parfaites, la salle de spectacle est dotée d’une acoustique exceptionnelle qui lui a permis de donner le « la » pour la représentation de grands opéras.
Faite de pierres de taille extraites dans les carrières proches de la Nièvre, la façade du théâtre, possède des murs en moellons et de belles lanternes rouges et s’élève sur deux niveaux. Flanqué de chapiteaux colonnade remarquables, le péristyle protège l’entrée principale des aléas climatiques. C’est grâce à cinq baies en plein- cintre que la terrasse située à l’étage communique avec le foyer. "
