Lac La Hache is translated: "The Lake of the Axe". As legend has it: during the fur trade era, after the unfortunate incident of a French-Canadian voyageur who lost his axe head while chopping a hole in the ice. This is how the town and lake got its name. One note of interest the welcome sign claims that Lac La Hache is the longest town in the Cariboo. Lac La Hache is a beautiful lake well known for its kokanee fishing and lake trout.

Lac La Hache Provincial Park Campground has 83 vehicle accessible campsites with a picnic table and a fire ring. There are tent, RV and camper campsites available and is wheelchair accessible. Pets are allowed, however must be kept on a leash at all times. The park was established in 1956 and is about 60 acres in size.

This is a very nice campground with towering Douglas Fir that provide shade during those hot days of summer. There is easy access to Lac La Hache Lake where a boat launch is located. This lake is perfect for swimming, canoeing, water skiing and wind surfing, and of course fishing.

The park has a large day use area not far from the campsites. It offers a playground, covered shelter, sandy beaches and change rooms.
