A long ridge runs from west to east to the south of the Scottish city of Perth, reaching a high point at the 223 metre mark at Moredun Top, the site of an ancient fort on Moncreiffe Hill which is at the wooded eastern end of the ridge between the Rivers Tay and Earn. The actual summit of Moncreiffe Hill (185 metres high) situated to the west was also the site of a fort. This high point lies two and a half miles south-east of the city, but the best view of Perth is situated around the 190 metre mark at the foot of Moredun Top on the north side where a clearing in the trees offers a view to the north-west to the city with the Highlands of Scotland in the distance.
The viewpoint can be found on the well constructed path up the hillside from the Tay Car Park to the north by following the signpost for the hillforts. A wooden bench marks the spot where there is a clear view over the treetops to most of the city.
