"Saint-Cyr Sainte-Julitte Cathedral, located rue du Cloître Saint Cyr, has the distinction of having two opposing choirs, one Romanesque, the other Gothic, the result of the juxtaposition of successive buildings. it is almost 15 centuries of history that express itself through this building.
From the creation of the bishopric of Nevers in the fifth-sixth century, only the remains of a baptistery remain, destined, as its name suggests, for baptism by immersion of the first Christians. The outlines delimited by white lines can be seen in the north part of the ambulatory.
In the first half of the 11th century, a Romanesque cathedral was born, with a west-facing chancel adorned with a 12th century fresco. Recently restored this fresco whose subject is taken from the Apocalypse according to St. John, is considered one of the largest decorating frescoes covering.
Between the 13th and the 16th century, another Gothic cathedral is grafted to the Romanesque parts still in place, with a choir rebuilt in a Gothic style become "radiant" thus testifying to the evolution of the architectural style. In the 15th century the chapels of the lower sides are pierced, the Boyer tower is erected in the 16th century. It is decorated with statues more than 3 meters high representing characters from the Old and New Testaments.
Listed as a historic monument in 1862, the cathedral will undergo various restorations. It is the 20th century and especially the Second World War that marks it deeply: a bombing between July 15 and 16, 1944 cause serious destruction to the Gothic nave and chevet. "

" La Cathédrale Saint-Cyr Sainte-Julitte, située rue du Cloître Saint Cyr, présente la particularité de posséder deux chœurs opposés ; l'un roman, l'autre gothique, résultat de la juxtaposition des édifices successifs. Des premières constructions aux ornements actuels, c'est près de 15 siècles d'histoire qui s'expriment à travers cet édifice.
De la création de l'évêché de Nevers au Vème-VIème siècle, il ne subsiste que les vestiges d'un baptistère, destiné, comme son nom l'indique, au baptême par immersion des premiers chrétiens. On peut voir les contours délimités par des lignes blanches dans la partie nord du déambulatoire.
Dans la première moitié du XIème siècle, une cathédrale de style roman voit le jour, avec un chœur orienté à l'Ouest orné d'une fresque du 12ème siècle. Récemment restaurée cette fresque dont le sujet est tirée de l'Apocalypse selon Saint Jean, est considéré comme l'un des plus vastes décors à fresque couvrant.
Entre le 13ème et le 16ème siècle une autre cathédrale de style gothique est greffée aux parties romanes encore en place, avec un chœur rebâti dans un style gothique devenu «rayonnant » témoignant ainsi de l'évolution du style architectural. Au 15ème siècle les chapelles des bas-cotés sont percées, la tour Boyer quant à elle est érigée au 16ème siècle. Elle est ornée de statues de plus de 3 mètres de haut représentant des personnages de l'Ancien et du Nouveau Testament.
Classée aux Monuments historique en 1862, la cathédrale subira diverses restaurations. C'est le 20ème siècle et notamment la seconde guerre mondiale qui la marque profondément : un bombardement entre le 15 et le 16 juillet 1944 causent de graves destructions à la nef et au chevet gothiques. "
