A good-sized metal sign with a You Are Here map is mounted flush to the east end of north wall of Lakeside Creamery [WM10Z9E] in Oakland, Maryland. It includes facts about Deep Creek Lake, of which this location offers a fantastic view. The silk screened layout of the sign is divided in halves.
The right side is a map. The map shows: Deep Creek Lake and the mountainous area immediately around it in blue and green respectively; the towns of McHenry to the north and Swanton to the south; highways 219, 135, and 495 and local roads surrounding the lake; and points of interest - Garrett College, Wisp Resort, and Deep Creek Lake State Park. - Deep Creek Lake is the largest freshwater lake in Maryland.
It was constructed in 1925 by the Youghiogheny Electric Co.
and purchased by the Pennsylvania Electric Co. in 1942.
It is now owned and operated by the State of Maryland, and is managed by
the Department of Natural Resources.
