According to an on-site sign, the wind turbines here range in size from watts (those to charge batteries) to megawatts (industrial sized). The Institute has tested turbines as small as 1.3 kW installed on a 10-metre tower with a blade diameter of 2.9 metres. The largest turbine in the area is the Vestas V-90 prototype rated at 3000 kW (3 MW) installed on an 80-metre tower with a blade diameter of 90 metres.

The reason that the institute chose this location are multi. The 300 degrees of exposure to the Gulf of St. Lawrence ensures consistently strong winds. In addition, a harsh environment, icing conditions, and low turbulence allow researchers to collect data points required for testing in a relatively shore period of time.
