FRIDAY, JUNE 1 will mark another highlight in the development of West Fraser Timber Park. The official opening and ribbon cutting ceremonies will take place for the field house in the park starting at 7 p.m.
The field house provides the park with much-needed washrooms and change rooms. It also contains a concession and storage space for the park goers. On the second floor is space for meetings and a social room.
The field house is an exquisite wood and stone faced structure. Funding initially was budgeted through the City of Quesnel and the Cariboo Regional District. When constructing tenders exceeded budget, West Fraser Mills Ltd. stepped in,. providing the additional funding to complete the project.
Quesnel Girls Softball further agreed to operate the concession, and open for all organized park functions.
The field house and the lawn bowling courts are the first developments in phase two of three phases of development for the Park. Additional facilities in phase two are to include a large pond, nature trails, a toboggan hill, tennis courts, shelters, open space play areas, beach volleyball courts and picnic areas. Developments will proceed as funds become available.
The City of Quesnel is grateful to the many major contributors to the park to date. Without this support, the Park Committee would have had neither the funding, nor the energy to reach this stage of park development.
