This pillar is situated on a low hill at only 74 metres high, but has a spectacular outlook northwards over the Firth of Tay to the city of Dundee. It is located on Peace Hill, near the farm of Peacehill, nearly a mile to the west of the Fife village of Wormit which lies at the southern end of the Tay Railway Bridge. The pillar is around a few hundred yards above the southern shore of the Tay where the Fife Coastal Path passes along Wormit Bay.

This pillar is unique in being converted into a stone bench and memorial to a local farmer and his wife. A short wall has been constructed on either side with a plaque fixed on the northward face looking over the Tay. The inscription reads as follows:

'In Memory Of

Thomas (Binks)

Douglas Forster

Born Rangoon Burma

12.09.1917

Died 03.01.2011

And

Muriel Jean

Forster (Wallace)

Born Drumnod Farm

21.08.1921

Died 15.02.2011

Farmed at Peacehill

1926-1977'

Fortunately a recess has been left on the other side of the wall, leaving the flush bracket uncovered.

STEEPNESS:A stiff short pull up from the path southwards.

TERRAIN: From the path, grass, which depending on the time of year can be knee high in places, although various paths have been formed by other visitors.

ACCESSIBILITY: Around half a mile from the car park at the end of Bay Road on the shoreline at the western end of Wormit.

NAVIGATION: From the end of the car parking area at the Tay Bridge Disaster Memorial, the coastal path should be followed around the bay. An track heading for an old quarry heads up the hillside southwards and the last hundred yards or so are a pull across the grassy terrain. A barbed-wire fence can be negotiated en-route by a gate. The pillar is visible from a few yards away to the south.

DANGER: Easy to get lost from leaving the coastal path.
